County Employees:
Consider your options...

The Problem. The Options. The Guarantee.

So we have problems with parking and traffic congestion here in Barnstable Village. Several options are being considered in addressing this problem. Consider your options:

Carpooling
You may know others in your department who work similar hours and live near your route to work. As an incentive, the County Commissioners have designated parking spaces for carpools only. These spaces are located conveniently near your buildings and may only be used by vehicles occupied by two or more persons when they arrive in the morning. A special carpool-parking permit is required.

MassRides, a statewide commuter services agency, provides ridematching services (helpful for finding carpool partners in other departments).

Cape Cod RTA Bus Service
Barnstable Village is served by the Villager bus - connecting to other routes at the Hyannis Transportation Center, and also serves CCCC and the Mall. Schedules are available online: www.capecodtransit.org toll free: (800) 352-7155

Biking/Jogging/Walking
Spring, Summer, and Autumn weather are great for biking or arriving on foot. Summer (and to a lesser extent the rest of the year) is also the time of year we need to reduce traffic and parking demands. Four bike racks have been installed to relieve your bike parking concerns. A shower (in First District Court) is available to freshen up.

The Guarantee
Of course, carpooling, transit, biking, or other alternatives don't help if there's an emergency at home or you become ill during the day. The Emergency Ride Home program will provide a transit, taxi, or rental car ride home (certain restrictions apply) during such times.
