Cape Cod Bike Week

Welcome to your Cape Cod Bike Week information source. Bike week is an annual event, intended to promote bicycling on Cape Cod through education and events to kick-off the summer season. Cape Cod Bikeweek has been adapted to other events: National Bikeweek and Massachusetts Bikeweek (see MassBike) which take place the third week of May; Biking is also an important component of Cape Cod Smart Transportation Week which takes place at the end of June each year. Check back for updates.

Suggested links/comments should be sent to trans@capecodcommission.org or to Transportation Staff, Cape Cod Commission, PO BOX 226, Barnstable, Massachusetts 02630-0226.

    Excerpt from previous Proclamation signed by the Barnstable County Commissioners:

    Whereas: Commuters who travel by bicycle employ a clean, quiet, and efficient mode of transportation while saving on the costs of fuel, automotive maintenance, and parking; and
    Whereas: Bicycling to work incorporates a healthy form of exercise into an individual's daily routine; and
    Whereas: Those who bicycle to work never experience parking shortages and do not contribute to traffic jams; and
    Whereas: The Cape Cod economy is enhanced by bicycle tourism and bicycle services; and
    Whereas: Bicycles can replace automobiles for short, high-emission trips, helping Cape Cod meet the requirements of the federal Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990; and
    Whereas: Safe bicycle facilities, both on and off the road, benefit cyclists and motorists alike; and
    Whereas: Barnstable County promotes bicycling as a viable means of transportation by building bicycle facilities and accommodating bicycles in transportation projects when feasible;

    Now, therefore, we, the Barnstable County Commissioners, do hereby proclaim the week of May .... as
    Cape Cod Bike Week
    and urge all the citizens of Barnstable County to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
